We are pleased to introduce our RLVNT team. Florian Jonathans is our new Commercial Director. He leads the commercial team and continues to build the operational and commercial activities. We asked him a few questions to find out more about him and his role at RLVNT.
Can you tell us briefly about your new role and the responsibilities?
As the Commercial Director at RLVNT, I will be leading the development and management of the sales and business development team. My key responsibilities include overseeing the entire sales and business development activities for our suite of products, which span across all digital media channels. A very important part of my job is to build and nurture client relationships. And last but not least, work closely with the sister agencies within the Candid platform
Can you tell us a bit about your career journey and what led you to become a CD?
My commercial career started over a decade ago, and along the way I’ve been able to work in several commercial roles at numerous companies across all sides of the industry.
I’ve been working in digital advertising for over a decade, with experience across sales, client management, and operations. I’ve helped grow businesses in various roles at companies like Ogury and WeTransfer. My work at Ogury, particularly expanding their Benelux presence, and at WeTransfer, driving growth in APAC and CEE, gave me a deep understanding of the digital ecosystem and commercial routes. At WeTransfer specifically, I also helped launch the proposition into the UK, working part-time in London. I’m also an active core member of the VIA Data & Tech Taskforce (local IAB). Over time, my passion for innovation and leadership led me to take on more strategic roles, ultimately leading to my current position as Commercial Director.
What attracted you to join RLVNT? What excites you most about this role?
Candid and RLVNT’s pioneering spirit really fits with my DNA. I also knew some people from STROOM already, and I could strongly relate with their DNA, and saw myself being part of the group. I am most excited about the fast opportunity in front of us, and through close collaboration, to capitalize upon this and to celebrate success together.
Where did you grow up, and what was your first job?
I grew up in Amsterdam. Apart from the countless side jobs I’ve had (I stopped counting at job 35), I started my formal career in marketing by coincidence. I was cruising across the Amsterdam canals with a friend when our boat broke down, and as I walked inside a building for tools I was struck by the great vibe, the digital environment and young people my age. It happened to be an Affiliate Marketing agency, and I asked if they were still looking for people. 1 month later my career in media officially started, and I never looked back.
What is the mission of RLVNT?
The mission of RLVNT is to revolutionize the way brands and advertisers engage with their audience by offering advanced digital advertising solutions that leverage data-driven insights, innovative technology, and a deep understanding of the ever-changing digital landscape. Through our Media Marketplaces, we aim to deliver value to advertisers and agencies by optimizing media spending, maximizing performance, and ensuring brands can connect with their audience in the most effective and efficient ways possible in an outcome-based full-service solution.
How would you explain to your grandmother what RLVNT does?
Imagine if you want to advertise something, like your favorite knitting supplies, to people who are most likely interested in buying them. RLVNT helps companies do that on the internet – it finds the right people to show the right ads to, in a very smart and automated way. It uses technology to make sure the ads reach people at the right time, on the right websites, and in the right format, to get the best results.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passions?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2.5 y/o son, unwind with fun activities with friends, or some gym routines at home. I am also a passioned gardener, and I like to tempted the Dutch climate by growing and cultivating tropical plants outside (I have a 3.5M high banana tree in my backyard and a very old olive tree). Being in the garden helps me to unwind and stay balanced.
Are there any books, podcasts, or shows you’re currently into?
Currently, I’m reading Leaders Eat Last, which dives deep into how we are wired as humans and taps into team’s well-being, fostering trust and cooperation. Some Podcasts I like to listen to Over Routines from Arie Boomsma.
What’s one piece of advice that you’ve found most valuable throughout your career?
The most valuable pieces of advice I’ve received are that people buy from people and to assume good intend.
